Bollywood Va Va Voom – Skye style
I mentioned in a previous blog that there was always plenty of things happening on Skye. Last night was no exception, what do you do on a Saturday night? We all know there is never anything good on the TV. An evening at a Bollywood night sounded a bit different, my friend Rachael and her husband Richard transported me to this extravaganza held in the Sabhal Mor Ostaig in Sleat, south Skye. The event had been organized by Meena Arts in conjunction with Skyedance. Skyedance is a dynamic community based organization promoting excellence in dance in Skye and Lochalsh. Since its inception in 2004 it has gone from strength to strength. They offer Skye residents the opportunity to participate in classes such as Ballet, Highland Tap, Step, Modern, Bollywood, Salsa, Contemporary and Egyptian, with new ones emerging all the time.
An evening of pulsating rhythms, beautiful dancing, rhythmic beats, Indian music, atmospheric lights and gorgeous colourful costumes. There was obviously a lot of work went into the night, the dancers, the Bollywood babes, were all so enthusiastic and obviously got great enjoyment from their dance moves. There were also some younger members of the crew who excelled in their street dance versus Bollywood set. There was a chance at the interval to have a go and try your hand at the Bollywood style. A good night was had by all, it is good to support local events, it gives us Skye folk a chance to widen our horizons.
