Celebrating International Women’s Day on the Isle of Skye
What do you do on a wet windy afternoon in March on Skye, not much you might think. There is always something going on in Skye, the local branch of Women’s Aid had organized an event in the Breakish Hall to celebrate International Women’s Day. Celebrating the achievements of women, some of them from Skye. One in particular Annie P MacKinnon a midwife who joined the Frontier Nursing Service in Leslie County Kentucky USA read about her on page 40 of link. Lizzie MacDougal had been invited to share some of her amazing stories inspired by the rich heritage of the Highlands. There were a lot of inspirational tales, one about the Brahan Seer-Coinneach Odhar, and Kenneth Mackenzie, was a predictor of the future who lived in the 17th century. Oh and and did I mention the wonderful cakes!
