Isle of Skye Burns Supper 25th January, the birthday of Robert Burns, a date celebrated throughout the world, with Burns Suppers. Where is there a better place to have one than in the picturesque village of Plockton I attended the 11th annual Burns Supper at Sgoil Chiuil na Gaidhealtachd, National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music. Having worked there at weekend for nearly 10 years I had attended many of their Burns nights, it was a great privilege to be asked back.
Lynne & Mike had been busy in the kitchen cooking up a feast, Rabbie would have been proud of. The pupils had been having workshops all day with Mick West (Scots singer) and Frank McLaughlan (Guitar).
The top table guests were piped in by Cameron Sharp, Emma Rutherford read the Selkirk Grace. The address to the Haggis was given by Robbie Stevenson from Orkney. The Immortal Memory was given by Hamish Ritchie. The toast to the lassies was given by Charlie Grey & Pablo Lafuente, the reply was given by Catriona Hawksworth & Kylie MacDonald.
After the meal the lights were dimmed and Tam o’ Shanter made an appearance in the form of Dougie Pincock. This was something not to be missed, Dougie has perfected his rendition through the years, you would think you were in Alloway Kirk with the witches.
The pupils then split up into different groups and played and sang the Burns songs they had learned earlier in the day. Then Mick sang some of Rabbie’s songs accompanied by Frank on guitar
A great evening, Dougie, Rhona, pupils, staff and guests, thank you.
