Visitors often ask me what there is to do on Skye, we are really spoilt for choice, there are always so many things going on. From October- April, Tuesdays, many local people play cards, Whist to be precise, we meet Tuesdays in Broadford Hall and Sabhal Mor Ostaig, week about. We pay £5 and get 20 games of whist, halfway through we have refreshments and sandwiches and lovely home baking. We always have a raffle, 1 strip of tickets £1, there are always fabulous prizes. All the money raised goes to local charities, it’s a great way to meet new people and help others.
We have a fabulous performing arts group SEALL, Skye Events for All. They were established in 1991 and operate from Sabhal Mo’r Ostaig in Sleat. This year there will be around 80 events, something for everyone, events for adults and children to enjoy. I had a friend visiting from France last week and I took her to listen to The Siobhan Miller Trio. Siobhan has won Scots singer of the year award on two occasions. The supporting group were young musicians from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. During the busy months July and August there is Feis An Eilein – The Skye festival, there is such a choice, it’s hard to choose, between workshops, concerts and ceilidhs. There is always a very welcoming atmosphere at all the events, I feel very privileged to have such wonderful artistic talent right on my doorstep! Last year I treated myself to annual season ticket, great value. There is never a dull moment, always something going on, you will not be disappointed, well worth planning a SEALL event into your itinerary when you visit our magical island.
