Sleat Perfectly Skye

Many people travel over the sea to Skye on the Calmac ferry that runs from Mallaig to Armadale located at the southern end of the island.  A high proportion of the visitors head directly for Skye’s famous landmarks and miss out on the Sleat Peninsula which is known as the garden of Skye.  The views alone are magnificent, you can see down to the Ardnamurchan Peninsula and over to the Small Isles, Canna, Rum, Muck & Eigg. There is a beautiful walk at Point of Sleat that takes you to a soft white sandy beach, Camus Darroch it is surrounded by petrol blue seas and rugged rocky shorelines. You are spoilt for choice with walks in Sleat, whether it’s through the heather clad hills or a forest or coastal walk you certainly won’t be disappointed.

There are many visitor attractions, the newest one being the ‘Torabhaig’ distillery, the first distillery to be built on Skye since 1831.  You can go a tour round and find out all about how they make the whisky, it will be a few years though before you can buy a bottle. They  have an excellent coffee shop, I can personally vouch for the scones. There is a lovely outdoor courtyard where you can sit and  relax and enjoy the beautiful views of Knock Bay and Knock castle.

I am a regular visitor to the Sleat Penisula, I am a season ticket holder for award winning SEALL – Skye Events for All . It was established in 1991, it is one of the liveliest community-led performing arts events promotion groups in the UK. There is always a varied programme of events throughout the year, we are spoilt for choice.
